The Religion Thing
Okay, so a few days ago, I'm at LCC, clamboring to my "spot" to chill out for a few minutes. As I'm sitting down, some male walks up and makes some sort of friendly comment. I've forgotten exactly what it was, probably "Hi there." Normally when strange people try to communicate with me, I give a friendly response, but in this case, for some reason I had a "who the fuck is this asshole?" mindset. I managed to force out a sort of confused "uhhhhh hi?" So this example of humanity pulls out a small red flyer and says that I "look like the sort of person that would be interested." I check out the flyer. The name on it is Hellstop. Is this a new club? A hot new band? Fuck no, it's a play being put on by a local church designed to scare people into Christianism, apparently. There may have been some tiresome short conversation about whether or not I go to church after I received the flyer, I can't remember. The guy says something to the effect of "I hope you check it out." and skitters off on his merry little way. From my "ledge" that I was sitting on, I watched from above as this guy shuffles up out of nowhere to another person, and hands the dude a red flyer as well. This person was holding some papers, and set the flyer on top. The flyer-handing-out-guy disappeared into obscurity, and I watched the receiver of the flyer walk away into the student's first building, anxious to see if he would drop the flyer on the ground as he walked, or if he'd stuff it in his pocket. When he came back out of the building, he still had his papers, but the flyer was no where to be seen. I can only assume that he threw it away inside, but I could be wrong. I'll never really know, will I?
But enough about that dude throwing stuff away. Back to me.
Now, I couldn't help but feel insulted. This guy saw me, and sumised that I was the type of person who must not go to church, and subsequently was a candidate for hell. Ouch. Sure, he'd be right, I don't go to church, and I must be a lost one, what with my black wig, and dark clothes and punk-like accessories on. But what basis for judgement is that? This guy had piercings on his face, and shaggy punk clothes, so uh what the heck? It just seems rude for this person to say that I look like the sort of person that would be interested. He couldn't have possibly meant that in a nice way. It was deceptively rude, is what it was, damnit. (I realized later that he's the ex boyfriend of my friend's little sister...small world...he's gotten scary)
Now today, as I waited to take the bus to LCC, I saw this guy again, sitting waiting as well, a tattered bible in his hand, with newly black hair on his head. Looking back, it was an interesting sight. I can respect someone quietly reflecting on their personal beliefs via reading at the bus station. Whatever, it doesn't involve me.((utilitarian!!))
As we all settled onto the bus, I paused my Sum41 CD to eavesdrop on the conversation he was striking up with what seemed to be a total stranger. The Hell Song would have to wait, I wanted to listen to what he said. He said he'd been busy that weekend, working on the hellstop thing. She seemed interested, so he explained to the young woman about what it was, sort of a play, that involved uh..walking. As far as I gathered, there were different parts the audience walked to to progress through the story of a greeeeat tragedy.
Now the story from what I can tell was about 2 girls getting into a car accident and dying. Now I guess the audience moves on at this point, and they go to view the judgement. Now one girl was a Christian, and she of course went to heaven in all it's rainbowy-butterfly-lollipop-cloudy glory I'm sure. But the other girl, well she wasn't a Christian. The guy didn't say anything about her being bad, although I can guess that they made her the drunk driver that caused the crash. Anyway, this chick didn't follow Jesus, God, the Bible, and the indisputable laws of the church.
She goes to hell. (look surprised)
Now I guess at this point the audience walks down a tunnel or something into "hell" where they see all the firey torture grim death, and the devil, who was coincidentally played by the flyer guy. Maybe that's why he was spreading the word...? I think at some point during the hell tour, people are supposed to realize the error of their ways, and be saved.
I heard that the play was half anti-drunk driving, half reaching out to the community. Both are good things, ne, but I find myself to irritated to see them positively, considering the message of the play also includes "choose us or be damned."
...That's sort of one of my main problems with Christianity. Why does it have to be all or none? If this god loves us so much, he'll forgive us for choosing our own path, ne? Forgive us and not damn us to eternal fire and pain and so on? If this god will damn me for reasons like that, then I think my fate is already sealed. Sure, I'll be terrified when I do die, not knowing what will happen to my "soul", or whatever, but at least I'll have lived my life according to what I believe.
Sure I'll be burning in hell, but at least I'll have that to comfort me ;)
....Anyway I guess all that was to vent my general frustration with Christianism. I think it's great that religion can bring people together the way it does, but it also tears people apart. Hardcore Christianists tend to dislike those of us who don't go to church , I've noticed. It's just I have trouble seeing the good points of a religion that has such closed minded views in SOME cases.
Bah...

In the Afterlife, Well be headed for a serious Strife!
I'm exicted about Hell. I don't mind the heat too much and I know all of my good friends will be there. I can't wait.
The problem I have with religion regardless of it being Christians, Mormon, Catholic, yada yada. Is that they all view theirs as being the "One." My thought on that as well is if God is soo loving and wanting us to earn our way into heaven. Which fucking one are we suppose to chose? Why are they not all right in eachothers eyes?
Also when it comes to religions that beleive they only allow say 145,000 people into heaven. I wont say which one I think it is since I'm pretty uneducated about the whole thing and don't want to sound any stupider. However if there was this number put on how many people are going to get into the gates. Why in the hell would I want to ruin my chances of getting in by recruiting more people to take my place.
