Cheeeeesssssteeeeer....
Feb. 15th, 2004 12:55 pm((I tried an LJ cut, but I messed it up somehow...so sorry for the length))
^_^ I got to go to my precious Linkin Park concert last night. @_o; Unfortuntately it was raining, and I didn't realize it would be raining...x_x...and I wore my 'hot topic' trench coat...which got soaked, and heavy, so I took it off and just held it over my head while we were waiting to get into the Rose Quarter or wherever...
...I hate how expensive things are at concerts. 3 dollars for a bottle of water, and they pour it in a paper up so you can't throw it or anything. I'm not feeling the trust. 5 dollars for cotton candy... 2.75 for a no-frills pretzel... luckily I was splitting all this with Tuna and her sister.
Anyhoo...0o; the concert... <3
Story of the Year, I hadn't really heard them yet, but I liked them. Alot of energy, you really got that "they're excited to be doing shows" feeling from them, even though they of course had the shortest set, being the first band and all. They even busted out a Metallica cover. ...I mean one of the songs Metallica did before they started to suck, of course. :D Enter the Sandman <3 ... it was funny though, they started off with "this is a brand new song we just wrote, and we know you'll love it" ...it took me a sec to realize they were of course kidding...
Hoobastank was next, kinda weird to see them in concert after that whole thing where they were named the most unrecognizable/faceless rock band or something like that. The lead singer was quite energetic. Haha I guess the singer has to be.... the guy that isn't holding some sort of instrument has to put on some sort of show so he doesn't look all uh...useless. Hence the running about the stage I guess. :D or maybe it's in the moment, since they all kinda do that. At one point the band started playing a cover...only nobody could tell what it was at first, then the lead singer started singing in this freaky girly-yet-low-yet-high voice...and everyone started cheering and laughing as we all realized he was singing Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" ... he only did part of the song though. I was disappointed.
....then there was POD ...which uh.. I don't like POD. I don't like rock with a positive message ~_^;; hehe.. okay maybe I just never got into them...so Tuna and I went and bought shirts that we shouldn't be buying, and then sat down when everyone else was jamming and standing up... I was taking an opportunity to conserve my energy. ..o_O I'm not gonna lie...the green laser show with the butterfly-flying-jesus things kinda freaked me out.
... We were sitting towards the side of the stage, about 6 to 8 rows up, which is the closest I've been to a stage at a "major" concert, so that was sweet, and Tuna had wanted to sit by this railing exactly at the side of the stage...but her sister and I didn't really want to sit there because it's hard to see the bands unless they walk up the ramp... I decided that I'd rather be able to see the show from a decent angle than be able to be 10 feet away from band memebers that came up the ramp (only Linkin Park was using the ramps anyway)... but still :D I was quite happy with my seats. From where we were, we could see a gap into backstage, and I kept trying to see if I could see Linkin Park band members during other sets, and during the breaks.
After POD played, some of those gigantic sheet things went up with the Linkin Park logo, so the stage would be covered while the uh... I'll call it the Linkin Park jungle gym was being constructed. Has anyone seen that thing? It's cool. ...I was staring in the backstage area again, and I saw someone in a white t-shirt, and I told Tuna I thought it was Mr. Hahn... she didn't see him though, then I saw him climb onto an unseen part of the 'jungle gym', so I decided it had to be him, but I kinda had to wait for the show to start to be sure, I hadn't gotten a good look at the face.
@_o; it took alot longer for the last set to start...more to tune and set up I guess. Plus they had to take those weird glowing POD things down o_O; ...some people decided it would be fun to start a WAVE. That's right. They did the wave. eventually it caught on, and it was fun for a minute, but then it kept going...and people got tired of it, and some people we're waving their hands in an attempt to MAKE IT STOP. That was priceless.
Anyhoo, lights go off, the sheets are still up, the crowd stands and goes ballistic, and a disembodied voice sings from behind the sheets for about a minute or so before the sheets drop down and the band kicks in to "With You" ...^^; Have I mentioned that I love this band?...anyhoo...every so often one of the band members would go up on the ramp, and our section would freak out and scream and cheer, and I would instantly wish I'd sat closer... but um...oo; that was as close to the band as I'd ever been, so wh00t. They played alooot of songs of course, and I was singing along, and since my right ear is messed up... I could hear myself really well, which uh... was rather unfortunate... o_O me shout-singing is not very nice to hear. o.O they even busted out a Piano at one point... --and-- Chester evidently learned to play the guitar, because he was playing when they did "It's Going Down" a track I'm sure less than half the audience has heard since...not everybody does the illegal file-sharing thing to find unreleased tracks.
Ive seen footage of their earlier live performances, and Linkin Park kinda...sucked, but they've really got their stage prescence working now. Like they've figured out what entertains people, and they look like they're loving it. 0o;; one of the times Chester came up to the ramp was creepy though...o-o; he was staaaaaring into the audience like he was trying to see as many people as possible before moving away. oo; must like having fans. anyway the look on his face was odd ;)
Anyhoo, then they announced that they were doing their last song, they sang "In The End" and flittered off stage...cause uh...well I guess it's tradition to walk off the stage for a while and then come back o-o; which they did after a while, and they did "my december" ... good song... then a few more uh... tracks to jump and mosh to, and then it was time for the ACTUAL last song..."One Step Closer"... o.o Mike Shinoda was goading the people on the floor that they needed to have a bigger pit, and to make sure to pick someone up if they fell down, and to get ready...and all that...then I heard Chester go "alright, you fuckers..." ...o_o which um...hehe okay... then they busted out the song, and on the chorus, the leads from Story of the Year, Hoobastank, and POD all came out to uh help. That was ALOT of people jumping around singing... It was cool though. :) then it was over of course, everyone waved, bowed, threw souveneirs into the crowd, and walked along the ramps and such. I was screaming at Mr. Hahn when he walked up :D "MR HAAAAAHN!!!" ... then
...the concert-y goodness was over.
:) It was a good day <3
